It’s been more than a month since Yanez was seriously injured and his partner, Ella French Officer, was killed on a South Side job in Chicago.
Since that day, 39-year-old Yanez has been struggling to recover after suffering multiple gunshot wounds, including his face.
In the weeks that followed, his sister said he was giving “110% in rehabilitation.”

Yanez was partially paralyzed and lost his eyes in the shooting.
He was discharged from the hospital at the end of August and is being treated at a rehabilitation facility.
“He has a small movement on his left arm and his right leg is slowly strengthening. His left leg hasn’t improved much,” said his sister Nicole.
She also revealed that another bullet had been discovered since he began rehabilitation, but added that there were no plans to remove any of the four bullets for that location.
“It has been difficult to psychologically accept his disability and eye loss for the past month, but he is resilient and has a positive attitude,” she said.
Two CPD police officers were shot when they pulled 22-year-old Erick Morgan in West Englewood on August 7. At that time, Morgan’s brother, 21-year-old Emonte and a woman were in the car.
According to police, Emonte killed the French and shot Janes three times. Both brothers were indicted.
A 29-year-old French police officer had only three years in his police career when he was killed.

This was the 27th time a Chicago police officer was shot dead this year and the 11th time a police officer was shot dead.
