Coroner: The body of a missing ISU student, Geraniday, has been identified | Top Story

LaSalle County, Illinois (Wand)-Jeraniday’s body was identified after being found on the Illinois River, officials said.

According to a press release from a LaSalle County prosecutor, the body found in early September was Day’s when authorities searched the Illinois River about a quarter mile east of Route 251 Bridge in Illinois. The search involved members of the Illinois Search and Rescue Council and other search agencies in the area.

Day, a graduate student at Illinois State University, was reported missing on August 25, 2021. The family reported that they had last talked to him on Monday night, August 23rd. He was seen on the ISU campus on August 24th.

Day’s vehicle was discovered in Peru on Thursday, August 26th. Based on the results of the Peruvian police investigation when the vehicle was recovered, a command post was set up and an extensive K-9 search was conducted by the Illinois State Police. There was an aerial search of the drone by Peruvian and Utica firefighters, and a ground search by teams from Peru, Utica and Ogresby.

After physical recovery on September 4, forensic identification and DNA testing and comparison were completed. The cause of death is unknown until further investigation and toxicological examinations are conducted.
