Offensive lineman Thai Nseke of the Dallas Cowboys in Frisco, Texas (AP) has been in the Los Angeles Chargers Sunday match after being hospitalized overnight for heat stroke.
Director Mike McCarthy said Nseke was treated after Thursday’s practice. The athletic trainer decided to send him to the hospital because he didn’t like how the 35-year-old woman responded to hydration.
Cowboys have been practicing mostly outdoors since the end of the training camp, with temperatures usually lower in the 80’s and 90’s. At the end of the team’s longest practice of about two hours, the temperature approached 90 degrees and the humidity was about 50%.
McCarthy said Nseke was discharged Friday morning, but the coach said there were no further details. The Cowboys will travel to Los Angeles on Saturday.
“It happened after practicing in the training room,” McCarthy said. “Many people needed additional hydration after practice.”
Nsekhe was an alternative to right-tackle La’el Collins, who has begun five games suspension due to a violation of the NFL’s substance abuse policy. Owner and general manager Jerry Jones said earlier on his radio show that undrafted second-year player Terence Steele would begin.
The Cowboys signed Nsekhe about tackle depth after spending the previous two seasons in Buffalo. All but one of his 17 career starts was his career in Washington in 2015-19. Nsekhe also worked in St. Louis and New Orleans after starting his career in arena football.
Nsekhe played high school football in the Dallas area and stayed in his home state for colleges in Texas and Tarton.
