Seven male and five female juries heard opening statements from the prosecution and the defense lawyer, outlining what evidence and testimony is expected over the next three months or more.
Holmes has been charged with 12 frauds and wire frauds in connection with Silicon Valley company Theranos.
In a government opening statement, U.S. lawyer Robert Reach told the jury that Holmes was fraudulent and misleading to attract investors and extend the availability of its testing equipment to Walgreens and Safeway stores.
