According to a WGN press release, a 21-year veteran at the station died on September 1 at her home in Detroit.
Employed at the age of only 25, Payne covered numerous stories around the world, including tracing the roots of former President Barack Obama in Kenya and traveling to Côte d’Ivoire with Rev. Jesse Jackson.
“I couldn’t find a better partner than Alison Payne. She had everything … smart, beautiful and curious, but above all, my friend,” she said. Co-anchor Steve Sanders said.
According to WGN, Payne was an indigenous people of Detroit and eventually called Chicago for many years to play an active role in the community.
She was the leader of many and eventually laid the foundation for journalism students.
“I’m worried about the list of questions that so many journalists want to ask, but she told me the most important part of the interview. That’s what I hear. It’s enough without asking the right question. The story will be clear when you ask. “
Payne returned to his hometown of Detroit in September 2011.
