Springfield, Illinois (Wand)-Governor JB Pritzker said he would sign the Energy Act after passing the state legislature on Monday.
Senate Bill 2408 includes measures to reduce carbon emissions by 45% by 2035 at the coal plants City Water, Light and Power and Marissa’s Prarie State Generation Co. A change in the bill replaced the plan to close the factory by 2045 with a plan to reduce carbon emissions.
The bill also includes a $ 700 million subsidy to maintain a nuclear power plant in Illinois.
The bill passed the House of Representatives on Thursday night with a count of 83-33. After passing the Senate, the governor said he was looking forward to signing it “as soon as possible.”
