Decatur, Illinois (Wand)-This weekend, members of the Illinois Community College Board of Directors met to discuss the state’s adult education literacy program. There is a growing need for adult education programs in Illinois.
“Adult education is important in Illinois,” said Whitney Thompson, Deputy Director of Labor Education. “One million Illinois are not educated in grade 12, so today’s work requires a high school diploma, and 65% require higher education.”
State programming offers adult basic education courses that can help you get a high school diploma and transfer them to post-high school planning.
“In adult education, there are various programs aimed at preparing the workforce,” said Jennifer Foster, Deputy Executive Secretary of the Community Committee. “One is an integrated training session program that combines basic skills. Combine this with training to reduce time to completion. Training can be done quickly and family members among employees. You will be able to make. Keep your wages. “
College Board members want more adults to join the program this year and use it as a path to a better career.
“For every $ 1 invested in adult education, the return on investment is $ 2.5, which means more educated people in the educated community and more self-reliant wages. “Thompson said. “Our program is ready to serve individuals and we look forward to seeing the work they are contributing to Illinois.”
