Skopje, North Macedonia (AP) —Hundreds of people marched in the town of North Macedonia on Saturday to honor the 14 people who died in a fire at the COVID-19 field hospital earlier this week.

People marched quietly in the center of Tetovo and knelt in front of the destroyed hospital. They also placed garlands and flowers in their place.

A fire broke out late Wednesday, destroying the facility within minutes, killing 12 patients and two visiting relatives. Twelve were injured. Investigations are still underway, but the flames are believed to have started by accident.

To address the surge in hospitalizations and bed shortages caused by the coronavirus, 19 field hospitals funded by the World Bank have been established throughout North Macedonia over the past year.
