New York (AP) — R & B superstar R. Kelly, known for the national anthem “I Believe I Can Fly,” has avoided criminal liability for decades of allegations of misconduct with young women and children after decades of avoiding criminal liability. I was convicted of a sexual trafficking trial on Monday.
A jury of seven men and five women admitted that Kelly was guilty of extortion on the second day of the deliberations. Kelly remained stationary and looked down when the verdict was read.

Federal Attorney Maria Cruz Melendez claimed that Kelly was a serial abuser who “continued to manage these victims using all the tricks in the Predator Handbook.”
The defense named the accusators “group” and “stalker.”
Canick wondered why he maintained his relationship with Kelly when he thought the victim was being exploited.
“You made a choice,” Canick said to a woman who testified, adding that “you participated on your own initiative.”
Born in Robert Sylvester Kelly, Kelly has been imprisoned without bail since 2019. The trial was postponed due to a coronavirus pandemic and a last-minute shake-up of Kelly’s legal team.
When it finally began on August 18, prosecutors portrayed the 54-year-old singer as a spoiled boy and a control freak. His whistleblower has been ordered to call him “Daddy”, jumping and kissing whenever he enters the room, and only when he plays a pickup basketball game that says he’s a ball hog. He said he was hoping to support him.
The whistleblower was also ordered to sign a nondisclosure agreement, alleging that he was threatened and punished, including violent spanking, for violating what was called “Rob’s rules.” Some said he believed that the sex videotapes he shot would be used against them if they exposed what was happening.
Among the other more annoying paintings: Kelly set aside his gun while beating one of the whistleblowers as a prelude to forcing oral sex in a Los Angeles music studio. Kelly gave herpes to several alleged victims without revealing that she had a sexually transmitted disease. Kelly forced a teenage boy to join him for sex with a naked girl who emerged from under a boxing ring in the garage. And Kelly shot a shameful video of a victim allegedly showing her dirty feces on her face as a punishment for breaking his rules.
Some of the most disastrous testimonies came from a woman who said Kelly used her in 2003 when she was an intern at an unprotected radio station. She testified that he took her to a recording studio in Chicago. There she remained trapped and was given medicine while she died before he sexually assaulted her.
“I was scared. I was ashamed. I was ashamed,” she said when she realized she was trapped.

Other testimonies focused on the relationship between Kelly and Aaliyah. One of the last witnesses said he saw Aaliyah sexually abusing her around 1993, when she was only 13 or 14 years old.
The jury also heard testimony about a fraudulent marriage plan that hatched to protect Kelly after he was afraid of impregnating Aaliyah. Witnesses said they got married in a jogging suit match using a license that misrepresented her age as 18 years old. He was 27 at the time.
Aaliyah (whose full name is Aaliyah Dana Horton) collaborated with Kelly, who wrote and produced the 1994 debut album “Age Ain’t Nothing But A Number”. She died in a plane crash in 2001 at the age of 22.
In at least one case, Kelly was accused of abusing a victim while under investigation in a child pornography case in Chicago. He was acquitted in a trial in 2008.
In the Brooklyn trial, Judge Ann Donnelly of the US District Court banned people who were not directly involved in the case from a court called Coronavirus Prevention. Reporters and other spectators had to watch video feeds from different rooms in the same building.
The New York proceedings are only part of the legal danger facing the singer. He also acquitted sexual charges in Illinois and Minnesota. The trial date for such cases has not yet been set.
