Colon grew up in Chicago. She is a self-taught artist who uses mixed media and elements of nature in her work.
However, Colon says he has no control over his work. Her ideas come to her through a vision she believes to be her ancestors, especially grandmothers with roots in Afro-Puerto Rico.
“I feel like I’m promoting her to a place where she doesn’t have to feel unfit for her because of her treatment and the conditioning she’s imposed on her because of her color. She’s the queen I’m going to bring her back to the throne, “Colon said.

In December, Colon was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and received two chemotherapy doses.
She finished the last part of the 33 new exhibits shortly after the final day of radiation.
“I was vomiting, I couldn’t control my food, I lost a lot of weight, I lost more than 67 pounds,” Colon said. “This is the most work I’ve done on display so far.” I’ve created more energy than ever in a live concert. I was passing through me, but I was just a ship that my ancestors passed through. “
The exhibition will be open to the public at Honeycomb network At Humboldt Park on Saturday, her 57th birthday.
“Ceceria is a warrior and a wonderful artist. Her work needs to know what she creates, from the space of her mind, from the space of her spirit. You need to know her I’m not going to leave the art exhibition unmoved. “Don’t leave it untouched,” said Denise Ruiz, co-founder of Honeycomb Network.
“It is very helpful to know that I am connected to the people who came before me, that they are suffering, that they are suffering, and that they have endured everything. I am grateful to pay tribute to my grandmother throughout this exhibition, “Collon said.
