ROME (AP) — Moderna has no plans to share recipes for the COVID-19 vaccine. Management has concluded that expanding their production is the best way to increase global supply.

In an interview with the Associate Press, Nouveau Afeyan also reiterated Moderna’s pledge a year ago not to force others who manufacture the coronavirus vaccine during a pandemic to infringe patents.

“We didn’t have to do that,” Afeyan said. “I think it was a responsible act.” “We want it to help the world,” he added.

The United Nations Health Agency has pressured Moderna to share vaccine prescriptions. Afeyan said he analyzed whether it would be better to share messenger RNA technology and decided that it could increase production in 2022 to achieve billions of additional doses.

“The most reliable way to efficiently produce high-quality vaccines within the next 6-9 months is to produce vaccines,” said Afeyan. Asked about complaints from the World Health Organization and others, he argued that such a petition assumed that he “did not get enough capacity, but in fact knows what we can do.” ..

Modena noted the Massachusetts-based company’s sprint of developing and mass-producing vaccines, saying it “shifted from zero production to one billion doses within a year.” “And we think we can reach 1 to 3 billion in 2022.”

The COVID-19 vaccine is Moderna’s only commercial product. Last week, the company announced plans to open a vaccine plant somewhere in Africa. Afeyan said he hopes the decision will be made in the right place soon. Still, it can take years to get the plant up and running.

On the last full day of his visit to Italy, Afeyan met Pope Francis, who appealed for access to a universal vaccine. He also appeared in Venice to promote humanitarian award initiatives.
