Michigan State University ranked fifth in the Associated Press college football vote, and Wake Forest became the top 10 team for the first time in school history on Sunday.

Georgia is unanimously No. 1 for the fourth straight week in the AP Top 25 announced by Regions Bank. The remaining top four were the same as last week, with Cincinnati in second, Oklahoma in third and Alabama in fourth.

Star-running back Kenneth Walker and Spartan jumped three spots, beating Michigan in their biggest weekend match. Michigan’s last top five came in 2015, when Spartan played the College Football Playoff.

The first CFP selection committee rankings for this season will be released on Tuesday night.

In the AP poll, Ohio State University fell to 6th place and Oregon was 7th, despite holding down Pennsylvania State University.

No. 8 Notre Dame, Michigan and Wake Forest closed the top ten.

Voting points

Demon Deacons has the highest ranking in program history, surpassing the 11th place it reached in 1947. WakeForest was the only team that had never been ranked in the top 10 at the Power Five conference.

Demon Deacons reached another first on Saturday, defeating Duke and improving to 8-0.

— No. 20 Houston was ranked for the first time under Dana Holgosen after bringing the SMU its first defeat of the season. Cougar last made it into the Top 25 in 2018.

Houston is the 45th different team to appear in the Top 25 of the season.

— No. 24 Louisiana-Lafayette has returned to the top 25 after losing the opening round in a pre-season vote.

— No. 25 Fresno also returned to the rankings after handing San Diego its first defeat in an important mountain west game.

— Pittsburgh fell out of 17th place after losing to Miami at home.

— Iowa State University is back again after losing in West Virginia. The cyclone returned to the rankings last week, but it turned out to be a short stay.

— San Diego State University dropped out after four weeks of execution.

Conference call

The Atlantic Coast Conference and Pac-12 have only one ranked team in the two Power Five Leagues, but the two Group of Five, the American Athletic Conference (3) and Sunbelt (2). There are multiple teams.
