Has been updated:Behind LJ Kryer’s Star Power, the No. 9 Baylor faces Central Arkansas.
LJ Cryer played modestly during his participation in Baylor’s National Championship last season.
But this time, I have a chance to star in the second grade.
Cryer and No. 9 Baylor (2-0) will be on the court for two consecutive days on Tuesday. Host Central Arkansas (0-2) in an All Bears match in Waco, Texas.
With an 89-60 victory over Nichols on Monday afternoon, Crier scored a career-high 20 points with 7 of 9 shots from the field, including 5 of 6 from a 3-point range. He also played a productive game in Baylor’s season opener, winning the Inkerner Teward 87-60 and knocking down 5 out of 10 with 13 points.
“I’ve always been a scorer, but as long as I develop the game, I feel like I’ve grown a lot mentally. Whenever I make a mistake, I can wash it away and move on from that play. Last season. Crier, who played in 20 games, said he scored an average of 3.4 points in 10 minutes per contest.
The 6-foot-1 guard scored 1 point in 8 minutes during Baylor’s 6 NCAA tournament games last spring. However, coach Scott Drew began to see another player as his team was preparing for the season.
“He was confident from the beginning,” Drew said. “We knew he would be a great year because he was playing well from the beginning and he showed it to me.”
Cryer was one of Baylor’s stars on Monday, but teammate Kendall Brown scored almost double-double in his second career game, finishing with 13 points (6-7 from the field) and 10 assists. ..
As a team, Baylor scored 33 assists with 37 field goals. However, Drew’s team also committed a 20-turnover with a generally sloppy performance.
“It was a game with many transition opportunities, and in some of them you have to trust their speed, athletic ability, slippery floors, but perhaps those 16, we You can make better paths, sharper paths, deeper paths, “Drew said. “That’s why we can improve.”
Central Arkansas started the season with 67 points lost to St. Louis and Butler. The team played against the bulldog for most of the last half of the match, ending 24-22 in the second half of the opening session and heading to the locker room with a manageable 38-30 deficit.
The Bears collapsed after half-time, but Anthony Boone was still happy with his team’s efforts against the veteran team.
“For 20 minutes we looked like a big east team,” Boone said. “And we need to keep expanding that time, but overall, we thought the first half was great and we’re going to improve it.”
Kamlen Hunter knocked down 3 points (42.9%), 6 out of 14 points, with an average of 12 points per game.
As a team, Central Arkansas shoots only 36.8% from the field and makes an average of 17 turnovers per contest. This should be cleaned up if it can confuse the defending national champion.
