Manhunt in progress for a Rockford man who escaped police detention

Milwaukee, Illinois (WTVO) — Milwaukee police are looking for a Rockford man who escaped detention on Tuesday.

According to the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office, Robert R. Johnson, 39, was detained at Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport before escaping shortly before 9:30 pm. Johnson was transported through the airport from Laredo, Texas to Rock County, Wisconsin.

Johnson was described as a 5-foot, 7-inch, 145-pound black man with a star-faced tattoo. He was finally seen wearing a black jacket, a white T-shirt, and blue torn trousers. He also had one handcuff and was equipped with a “RIPP” belt used to transport prisoners.

The search for Johnson, facing allegations of weighted assault and robbery, is currently underway. He has a wealth of criminal records and the sheriff’s office advised him to pay close attention if he encountered Johnson.

According to police, anyone who sees or contacts him should call 911 immediately.
