Lincoln, Illinois (Wand)-Springfield’s YMCA and Lincoln Area YMCA have merged their businesses, leaders announced Thursday.

This follows two organizations that signed a management agreement to provide leadership and operational support to Lincoln YMCA in 2020, Springfield CEO Angie Sowle’s YMCA said in a press release. The agreement aimed to strengthen both institutional communities while growing Y’s services and programs “currently and in the future.”

Leadership has worked together to create a seamless transition that will allow YMCA programs and services to grow in Lincoln and neighboring communities. Officials said the merger would benefit both organizations by combining staff, volunteers, facilities and resources, strengthening YMCA’s ability to meet the needs of the urgent community.

“We look forward to seeing all the work bear fruit for our community. Both associations have a strong reputation, a solid membership base, and great staff. Members. We look forward to what value we can add to our ship and how we can combine our strengths to strengthen our community. “

According to the release of Sowle’e, Lincoln staff recently moved from their Broadway Street storefront to YAC (Youth Activity Center) on 719 Wyatt Avenue in October. The building was renewed and improved with the support of the Independent Order of Odd Fellow. ..

The move will sell membership and give members access to new fitness equipment, weights and gymnasiums. The grand opening of the building is scheduled for late 2021.

There is also an “Advance the Mission” capital campaign going forward between the YMCA and the Lincoln Memorial Hospital with the goal of building a new YMCA in the future.
