Joliet, Illinois (AP) —Overnight shootings at a Halloween party outside Chicago killed two people and injured more than twelve, officials said Sunday.

According to the Will County Sheriff’s Office, Sergeant Patrol heard about 12 bullets after 12:30 am in Joliet, about 45 miles (70 km) southwest of Chicago. The sergeant went home and found more than 100 people fleeing the party.

According to officials, additional police arrived, found victims in the backyard and nearby homes, and heard more ammunition nearby.

The Will County Sheriff’s Office said more than 12 people were hospitalized. It was confirmed that two people were killed and four were seriously injured.

Police estimated that about 200 people attended the Halloween party at home, and the shooting took place near a DJ booth in the backyard.

Officials said the shooting appeared to have come from “a high position on the porch overlooking the crowd.”

Witnesses told police they believed they had two archers.

Police did not provide further details, including motivation.

“The investigation is in its infancy and staff at Will County Sheriff’s Office are still protecting the crime scene and collecting evidence,” the agency said in a news release.
