New York (AP) — The son of American Film Institute founder and Oscar-winning director George Stevens will publish a memoir next year. George Stevens Jr.’s “My Place in the Sun” will be released on May 17th.

“My great-grandmother was an actress who was born in San Francisco during the Civil War and started five generations of Stevens in show business,” Stevens, 89, said in a statement Wednesday. “I’ve lived a fascinating life at the crossroads of Hollywood and Washington. I’m a storyteller and this was an opportunity I couldn’t resist.”

Stevens’ father is known for classics such as “Shane,” “Woman of the Year,” and “Place in the Sun,” and is named after this book. George Stevens Jr. started as a film production assistant for his father, produced a documentary for the US Intelligence Agency in the 1960s, and was the founding director of the American Film Institute, which began in 1967. In the 1970s, he was honored by the Kennedy Center, an annual Art Lifetime Achievement Award in Washington, DC.
