Jill Biden shares with kids about the meaning of Christmas | Lifestyle

Washington (AP) — First Lady Jill Biden read an excerpt from Friday’s “How the Grinch Steals Christmas” as part of a charity event to provide toys to poor children on holidays.

Biden was at Joint Base Meyer Henderson Hall in Arlington, Virginia, sitting with about 30 military children during his remarks at the Marine Toys for Tots event. She and her children sorted the donated toys together into a bottle.

According to the charity directory, Toys for Tots donated 20.1 million toys to 7.4 million children last year.

“We also serve military children. The President and I thank you for your service to the country. That applies to all military children,” she said.

“Merry Christmas! Well, how many people know this book? Wow, everyone knows this book,” she lifted the grinch and said.

She read an excerpt from Dr. Seuss’s holiday book. If you realize that Christmas is coming even after the Grinch has stolen all the presents in the town, “Christmas may not have come from the store. Christmas may make a little more sense.”

When the kids said Christmas was to love each other, she replied, “I agree, it’s not a beautiful feeling about Christmas.”

“Kindness, sharing, generosity, and service. These are the gifts you are giving together.”

She thanked the Marine Corps Reserve and Toys for Tots for “gathering us all.”
