Decatur, Illinois (Wand)-From December 6th, the Macon County Environmental Management Recycling Center will collect strings of unwanted Christmas lights.
Wrights will be collected from December 6th to January 31st, 2022 at the center on Decatur’s 1750 N. 21st Street.
Light bulbs do not need to be removed from the light strands for recycling, but all packages and other accessories such as hangers, garlands and ornaments should be removed before dropping off.
All drop-offs must be placed in a specially marked outdoor blue collection box at the Macon County Environmental Management Recycling Center.
It turns out that recycling is a better option than throwing overly worn or improperly functioning light strands into the trash.
Recycling allows new products to reuse unwanted strands of metal and plastic, reducing extraction costs, saving resources and saving energy.
