Philadelphia boy shot 18 times while waiting for the bus

Philadelphia (AP) — A 14-year-old Philadelphia boy waiting to get home from school by bus was shot dead 18 times on Monday afternoon, police said.

A Philadelphia police spokesperson said in an emailed incident report that Samir Jefferson fired at least 36 bullets at a bus stop in the North Philadelphia district before 3:30 pm Monday. He said he was waiting for the fire.

According to police, Jefferson was shot 18 times throughout his body. The boy died in a local hospital after a while.

As of Monday, more than 500 murders have been recorded in the city, the highest number since at least 1990.
