An event celebrating MLK’s legacy planned in Urbana | Top Story

Urbana, Illinois (Wand)-An annual celebration of Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s legacy is coming to Champaign County.

On January 16th, the 21st Martin Luther King Jr. County-wide celebration will be held at the Cranart Performing Arts Center (500 S. Goodwin Avenue, Urbana). The event door opens at 4 pm and the community choir begins at 4:30 pm.

The program features Dr. King’s nephew Derek Barber King, Jr. as a keynote speaker. It starts at 5 pm. The event is open to the public for free.

Vaccination proof is required to enter the Krannert facility.

The ceremony will be attended by Dr. King’s principal and three prestigious award-winning community members for their work in support of their ideals.

  • James Tiger Corbin-Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Winner of Outstanding Achievement Award

The general public can also attend the Unity Breakfast on January 17, 2022. It is scheduled from 8:30 am to 9:30 am at the Vineyard Church in Central Illinois (1500 N. Lincoln Avenue, Urbana). This event is also free to the public.
