Saturday tally COVID-There was relatively good news on 19 cases, deaths and hospitalizations by the Los Angeles Public Health Service. We are no longer setting new records for cases.
Following two days of record new cases, Saturday’s LA Public Health report showed that 43,712 to 34,448 new cases were discovered on Friday.
That’s good news, but from a total of 28 people on Friday, 16 new deaths were reported. This brings the total number of deaths to date in Los Angeles County to 27,772.
New admissions on Saturday increased from 2,902 on Friday to 3,200, including those who came to the hospital for other reasons and were judged positive for Covid-19 while in the facility. there is a possibility.
The county’s public health authorities took a different view of the numbers, emphasizing the more frightening situation. They advertised a total of more than 200,000 new coronavirus cases each week over the past seven days. This is the best since the pandemic started. Officials said hospitalizations doubled and positive test results increased by more than 20%.
Overall numbers are high, but the downtrend is welcome news, especially as the Los Angeles Unified School District is preparing for the reopening of public schools this Tuesday. New positives for students and staff tested this week showed an increase in infection rates of 13.5%. This is a 10-fold increase from the pre-winter vacation total.
Most Los Angeles County school systems are scheduled to open on Tuesday. Montebello Unified, the third largest district in the county, delays reopening by a week.
At the college level, Friday’s UCLA has become the latest California campus to postpone students’ return to face-to-face instruction. Distance learning at UCLA will be extended until January 28th. Initially planned for a two-week delay, many UC campuses are now kicking cans surprised by the increasing number of cases.
USC also went to distance learning for teaching in the first week of this week.
For business and other indoor activities in California, Mask Obligations and Social Distance Proposals are valid until at least February 15.
