Redick, Florida-Billy Turner, who trained Seattle Slew in the Kentucky Derby, Preakness, and Belmont Stakes Triple Crown Sweep in 1977, died. He was 81 years old.
According to his wife Pat’s statement, Turner died while receiving hospice care after fighting prostate cancer at Redick’s home on Friday.
Seattle Slew became the winner of the 10th triple crown of horse racing and was the first to be undefeated during his 3-year-old season. The foal was named Horse of the Year in 1977 and defended a 3-year-old man.

Born February 29, 1940 in Rochester, New York to William H. Turner Jr., he began his career as a steeplechase horse in Pennsylvania. He later became a jockey and was licensed as his trainer in 1966.
Turner retired in 2016 and moved to Florida.
