Darrell Brooks, Jr., 39, filed 77 charges in less than five minutes in court, including six murders and multiple reckless dangers. Brooks’ lawyer filed for a change in the location of the case on Thursday, but it’s not clear when the motion will be considered. He remains imprisoned on $ 5 million on bail.
Last month, Court Secretary Kevin Costello said the prosecutor had presented “enough” evidence that Brooks had probably committed a felony and ordered him to go to court.
During the preliminary hearing, police detective Thomas Casey testified that he and other police officers shouted to stop at Brooks when he and other police officers drove an SUV on the parade in downtown Walkisha on November 21st.
He explained how vehicles zigzag the blocks across the street, crashing into the marchers from behind and running them. Brooks injured 61 people, including the six he killed, he said.
Brooks lawyer and public defender Anna Keith argued that the parade route could not be turned off because the side streets were full of spectators with barricades. She also said he wasn’t going to kill anyone to the detective and said he couldn’t see himself when the detective showed him a picture of the genocide.
