(NBC Chicago)-An 80-year-old woman from Lincolnwood finds a woman in her house captured by an armed intruder after not sending her daily Wordle score to her family. People near her notified police.
In addition to not being able to share the results of online word puzzles, Dennis Holt did not answer texts or phone calls on Sunday, according to Lincolnwood Deputy Police Chief Travis Raypole.
Holt’s car was there, but she didn’t answer the door, police said.
In response to a call from a neighbor, police conducted a medical examination at 4600 blocks on Morse Avenue at around 9:40 pm. Upon arrival, police found a broken window on the ground floor of the house and said blood was bleeding on the scene.
According to police, Holt awoke and demanded that James Davis, 32, of Chicago, armed with scissors, “provide him with help.”
According to the investigation, Davis undressed and broke into Holt’s house naked early Sunday morning because police believed it was a mental health crisis.
After threatening Holt, police said she couldn’t communicate with anyone because Davis had collected all the phones and cell phones in her residence.
Police found Holt detained in the basement for about 17 hours against her will, officials said. She was taken safely and she was reported to be physically intact.
Police later found Davis armed with “some knives” in his bedroom upstairs. Authorities said police had deployed taser guns to detain Davis, but failed.
Police said local SWAT and NIPAS teams were called in to arrest the man shortly before 3 am on Monday.
Davis has been charged with several felony charges, including burglary with dangerous weapons, worsening kidnappings armed with dangerous weapons, and worsening assaults on police officers.
