Everyone between the ages of 18 and 39 is eligible to apply for the exam. The minimum requirements for becoming a police officer include at least 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours credits at an accredited college, or 3 years of active duty and 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours college credits in the military. Applicants must also have a valid driver’s license and firearm owner ID to become a police officer.

Officers must also live in the city and do not have to be permanent residents of US citizenship.
Applicants must be at least 21 years old to begin training at the Academy and cannot enroll in the Academy after the age of 40.
Anyone who wishes to apply for the entrance examination can register. CPD websiteOr meet in person on the day of the exam. Pre-registered students will have access to the study guide and will be guaranteed a seat for the exam.
“We are pleased to welcome candidates who are investing in making Chicago a safer city,” said Yolanda Tully, Deputy Chief of Recruitment. “Taking this entrance exam is the first step in joining the next generation of Chicago police officers.”
Each exam day has a morning session and an afternoon session.
The exam times, locations and dates are as follows:
Morning session: The door opens at 8 am and closes at 8:30 am.
Afternoon Session: The door opens at 1:30 pm and closes at 2:00 pm.
