New York (AP) — Prosecutors target and groom R & B singers to close associates for years and exploit girls, boys, and young women for his own sexual satisfaction. ..
Six-week testimony and other evidence from more than 45 Witnesses “showed that he did exactly that,” said Elizabeth Geddes, assistant US prosecutor.
She said Kelly escaped by sexually abusing her victims by dressing herself in an iron fist-controlled enabler.
She told the jury that Kelly’s hired assistants, drivers, and bodyguards made up the criminal business, resulting in federal extortion charges against him.
“The defendant has set many rules and he demanded full obedience,” she said.
That meant “for years, what happened in the defendant’s world remained in the defendant’s world,” she added. “But no longer.”
After that, Geddes began to scrutinize all the important elements of the jury’s evidence.
Before the closing began, Kelly told Judge Anne Donnelly of the US District Court that he would not take the position of a witness, thus avoiding the risk of potentially brutal cross-examination.
“You don’t want to testify, right?” Donnelly asked the R & B singer. He replied: “Yes, wife.”
Lawyers have already said that Kelly is unlikely to testify for himself. Shortly thereafter, the defense completed the proceedings and was ready to begin the closure.
The defense’s presentation was a 1996 blockbuster “I believe I can fly.”
Most of the defense witnesses said they had never seen Kelly abuse someone. Some have even said that Kelly is “chivalry” to her girlfriend. Another wanted to see him defeat the accusation, admitting he owe Kelly for his break in the music business.
In contrast, prosecutors have called dozens of witnesses since the trial began in federal court in Brooklyn on August 18. At his shows and at the malls and fast food restaurants where he spent his time.
Whistleblowers testified that when they entered Kelly’s Web, in an episode dating back to the 1990s, they groomed them for unwanted sex and psychological distress. Their account was supported, at least in part, by other former Kelly employees. Their own testimony suggested that they were essentially rewarded for taking a different perspective and enabling recording artists.
Born in Robert Sylvester Kelly, a 54-year-old defendant pleaded not guilty to extortion. He has also been charged with its multiple violations of the Mann Act, which makes it illegal to transport someone across state boundaries “for immoral purposes.”
Kelly vehemently denied the allegations, claiming that the whistleblower was a groupie who wanted to take advantage of his fame and property until the #MeToo movement opposed him.
Media members and the general public have never actually seen Kelly imprisoned during the trial. The judge banned people from the court who were not directly involved in the case, what she called a coronavirus preventative measure.
