Milan (AP) — Italy’s vaccination campaign is a key factor behind the economic recovery from the pandemic, Mario Draghi signed a document on Wednesday predicting 6% growth, higher than expected this year. I mentioned later.
Draghi called vaccination “a component that supported this recovery in the Italian economy.”
“Being able to work quietly in business, being able to travel, having children and students returning to school … this is a fundamental element of growth that we must protect,” he said.
Italy vaccinates 78.4% of the eligible population over the age of 12. Starting October 15th, you will need a health pass to access all workplaces. This pass shows evidence of vaccination, recent negative tests, or recent recovery from the virus and is required for indoor leisure activities such as theaters, museums, dining, and long-distance domestic trips.
Italy’s budget figures initially projected growth of 4.5% after a 9% reduction in 2020, when Italy’s economy was devastated by a severe blockade to contain the pandemic.
The Italian government has raised its 2021 forecast to 6%, thanks to strong exports, the impact of government measures to support the economy, increased consumer and corporate confidence, and a significant reduction in new virus cases. Economic Minister Danielle Franco told reporters.
Growth is expected to continue, with GDP expected to increase by 4.2% in 2022.
“There is trust in Italy among Italy, among the Italians, and from other countries in the world. That’s another important news,” Draghi said. He said new actions taken by the government need to “contribute to fair, sustainable and durable growth.”
Draghi said it was the “first quantitative confirmation” of what the central bank had long claimed. Public debt is projected to fall from 155.6% last year to 153.5% of GDP this year.
Draghi called for repeated “aggressive” questions about whether to consider replacing Sergio Mattarella with the Italian president when Mattarella’s term expires next year.
“It is Congress that determines the life, perspective and effectiveness of this government,” he said. “This government was created and does its job to address issues specific to a particular time period.”
He also revealed that the legislatively empowered government in 2023 would not take power beyond its usefulness.
