Sheboygan, Wisconsin (AP) — No one has won as many Ryder Cups as Sergio Garcia.
That’s great for his career.
It’s not as great as it is true about him and his flare team from Europe this week either.
Garcia overtook Nick Faldo on Saturday to win his 24th career win at his most cherished event, but it was a morning that Europe was even behind. Spain.
“It’s great, but it’s not,” Garcia said shortly after he and countryman Jon Rahm finished their three-on-one victory over Brooks Koepka and Daniel Berger. “We need more wins, but unfortunately we haven’t won at this time.”
Garcia paired twice with Ram to start a morning foursome match at Whistling Straits, with the new Spanish Armada 2-0.
However, in the first three sessions, one out of ten teammates was not in the winning line. Also, since Spain entered the Ryder Cup in 1979, Europeans have been staring at the biggest deficit in three rounds.
“Obviously, John and I did what we had to do and what we could do,” Garcia said. “Unfortunately, Americans seem to be playing a little better than we are, and that’s a shame.”
If the rest of the week hadn’t been shaped as such a complete disaster, I could only imagine that this match would fit into one of Europe’s clever social media videos.
Garcia looked cold and old in the first teabox — no inspiration when he and Ram stepped into a three-down deficit after three holes.
He started Pat completely online at number 7, but shortened his legs and buried his face in his hands.
But then he holed out in front of the 9th green and suddenly pulled the Spaniards back evenly.

“We’ve been supporting each other all the time, and even at bad times we were smiling at each other, and I think that was the biggest part,” Ram said.
Given how well it worked and how it was the only feature, captain Padraig Harrington was forced to re-pair with the Spaniards in the afternoon walk. They played against Koepka and Spieth.
If nothing else, it’s a good time to fill in the statistics.
Garcia improved to 24-12-7 in 10 Ryder Cup appearances, with Faldo, Bernhard Langer and Arnold Palmer even more dusty with each win.
But Garcia knows this. More than any golf event, the Ryder Cup is not an individual number. And unless he starts getting some help (many things), he stays at six. This is the number of Ryder Cup winning teams he participates in.
“We are aiming to win the match, so we can score points in our favor and take points from the United States,” Garcia said. “But I need more. I haven’t got them at this time.”
