John Lennon Interview Tape Wins $ 58,240 at Danish Auction | Entertainment

Copenhagen, Denmark (AP) — A 33-minute recording of John Lennon interviewed by four Danish teenagers 51 years ago and an apparently unreleased song by the Beatles deceased at an auction on Tuesday at 370,000 kroner (58,240). The Beatles won the cassette tape in Denmark.

Recorded on January 5, 1970, the tape consists primarily of Lennon and his wife, Yoko Ono, who talks about being in Denmark and world peace. Some couples are singing two songs, “Give Peace a Chance” in 1969 and “Radio Peace”, which was produced for a Dutch radio station but was not released.

The cassette was put up for sale by Bruun Rasmussen Auctioneer in Copenhagen, along with 29 still images and a copy of the school newspaper where teens interviewed Lennon and Ono. The pre-sale quote for the lot was SEK 200,000 to SEK 300,000 ($ 31,481 to $ 47,222).

“This is a small item of great interest,” said auctioneer Yesper Brune Rasmussen when he lowered the hammer.

“I thought it was unusual to exceed the quote,” Alexa Brune Rasmussen, the main auction house in Denmark, told The Associated Press. “Unfortunately, it’s a secret who the buyer is, but it’s clear that he went abroad.”

Danish teenagers interviewed in northern Denmark during the height of the Vietnam War and the Cold War because Lennon and Ono were “a message of peace and it was important to us.” A tape recorder borrowed from a local hi-fi shop told The Associated Press.

After selling in a packed auction hall, Hoejen said, “I exceeded all expectations.”

“Now there is some relief,” he added, adding that the three surviving men interviewed have not decided what to do with the money.

Lennon and Ono were in your northern region of Denmark as Ono’s ex-husband moved there and brought his five-year-old daughter Kyoko.

Since the late 1960s, the alternative living community has grown rapidly in Denmark, attracting foreigners and being inspired by Woodstock and the Isle of Wight music festivals.

The auction on Tuesday was dedicated to 20th century artwork and 116 items were put up for sale.
