Developed at Beyond Meat, the McPlant burger is a vegan sesame bread with vegan cheese, vegan sauce and other toppings served with a plant-based pate. Both patties and cheese are made from pea protein.

McDonald’s is cooked in a special cookware, separate from other McDonald’s sandwiches. It will be sold in 10 stores this month and will be expanded to 250 more stores this fall. McDonald’s will be available in 2022 in all McDonald’s in the UK and Ireland.

A Chicago-based burger giant said Thursday that vegan burgers had previously appeared on several menus in the area. However, this is the first time a vegan burger certified by the Vegetarian Society has been sold by McDonald’s in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

The company said it has decided to build a McPlant vegan to meet the expectations of its UK and Irish customers. It’s not clear when McPlant will be available in the U.S.

McDonald’s announced a partnership with California-based Beyond Meat’s El Segundo in February. We also tested McDonald’s burgers in Denmark, Sweden and Austria, but the sandwich wasn’t vegan because McDonald’s used regular cheese and mayonnaise in all these markets.
