In the past, Emmy voters liked one show and tended to repeat it for several seasons as a champion in the comedy series category. Until very recently, only three series enjoyed multiple runs in gold. 30 lock, Then 5 consecutive wins Modern family, Then 3 consecutive wins Veep..But lately Emmy Awards Winners in this category have participated in three different shows over the years. Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (2018), Fleabag (2019), and Schitt’s Creek (2020).

In all of these cases, the win was overwhelming, but there was also the first nomination for the Best Comedy Series (the final season for the latter pair). What’s interesting about this year’s race is that none of them are defending the crown. Fleabag When Schitt’s Creek History Mrs. Maisel It didn’t show up in the new season during this year’s qualification period. Therefore, whatever wins in our eight candidates in 2021 is guaranteed to win a new winner in the Comedy Series category for the fourth consecutive year. Here is an overview of the candidates. After being nominated in this category in 2016, 2017 and 2018, he will return to the race this year after failing to cut in the last two years. With a total of 24 nominations in those seven seasons, the show has only won one Emmy Award (outstanding contemporary hair styling) at that time. It is also the only candidate for the Best Comedy Series on any broadcast network this year. Can it probably win, or will voters wait to be crowned it in the final season announced next year?

One of three candidates from Netflix, a streamer who has never won here Cobra Kai I was on YouTube for the first two seasons, but managed only a few stunt coordinator nominations. This third season was filmed before the series officially announced its move to Netflix. This switch seems to have made all the difference. I received four nominations, including the big one here. Its existence may seem a little surprising, but this homage is Karate kid Middle age really pleased the crowd and slowly but steadily caught up.

This popular new series is the first to appear in Netflix racing. City of Light – It is popular. In short, it’s popular with everyone except critics who were blown up by the Golden Globe nominations and were shocked when Emmy voters followed. Full Disclosure: I’m one of the Emmy Award voters who marked the ballot on this colorful charmer. Darren Star’s fun series made a clearly correct note to win this nod, and why not? There is little chance of winning, but the fact that you are in the race is a victory.

Phil Caruso / HBO Max

flight attendant, HBO Max

This mystery comedy series, starring Kaley Cuoco, was an immediate hit on one of two shows on the up-and-coming new streamer HBO Max. Viewers and Emmy voters couldn’t binge it fast enough at the time of their debut. Its international atmosphere was certainly harmless in the process of winning a total of nine nominations, the third highest in the overall category.

Jake Giles Netter / HBO Max

hack, HBO Max

Another entry from HBO Max was this new series about the relationship between Joan Rivers-style Las Vegas comics and her new young writer. This is probably a notable show in this category. It was late, but soon caught. Despite approaching the end of the season, it was enough to win an impressive 15 nominations. If you have a dark horse, that’s probably this. It quickly seemed to know exactly what it wanted to be and proceeded with the delivery of the goods.

Netflix

Kominsky Method, Netflix

Chuck Lorre’s Netflix three-season series has become stylish with a six-episode finale. This seemed like the perfect ending to a show about aging, without giving in to aging. Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner, Stone romance When War of the Roses, I made this very easy to see. Netflix has the best chance of winning this category, as this is their last chance. Still, it’s uphill.

PEN15, Hulu

After breaking through writing nominations in the first season of last year, this clever Hulu series makes the first nod in this category. Starring a real young actor of that age and two actresses / creators / writers in their thirties who play themselves at the age of 13 is as original as any other show in this category. It removes the almost impossible assumptions and earns very big points to make it work.

Golden Globe Awards

Ted Lasso, AppleTV +

With a total of 20 nominations, it’s the largest total ever in the first season of the comedy series. Jason Sudeikis will appear as the title character in this pleasing show, and a kind and likable American soccer coach will take over the English team. The underwater story of the fish, which was quickly loved, swept all early precursor awards and enjoyed the record number of viewers for the second season of its perfect Emmy awards currently on air.wind is Ted LassoBack, and I don’t bet on this front runner. He has already won three Emmy Awards at the Creative Arts Ceremony (out of seven) last weekend, and this week won the Grand Prize from the Television Critics Association for Achievement In Comedy, New Program, and Program of the Year. .. Goodall Ted should laugh out loud on Sunday.

Expected Winner: TED LASSO
