Salt Lake City (AP) — A football player at the University of Utah died in a house party shooting early Sunday, Salt Lake City police said.
The shooting that killed Aaron Lowe was after midnight, just hours after Ute defeated Washington 24-13, and less than a year after Lowe’s teammate died in an accidental shooting. Happened.
Police said a woman, another victim of the shooting on Sunday, was hospitalized in crisis and authorities are searching for the suspect.
“We have been overwhelmed by hearing about Aaron Lowe’s death,” Utah coach Kyle Whittinghamhead said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Aaron’s family and friends, along with other individuals affected by this tragic event. 21-year-old Rowe was the first recipient of a commemorative scholarship created to honor former Utah player Thai Jordan, a 19-year-old tailback who died in an accidental shooting in December 2020.
Jordan and Rowe were high school teammates in Mesquite, Texas.
After Jordan died, Rowe switched his jersey number from 2 to 22 to honor his friend.
Utah Governor Spencer Cox celebrated his third season in Utah with condolences to Rowe’s family, a preliminary cornerback who played primarily on special teams.
