Rockford’s mom says a 3-year-old child has encephalitis caused by COVID-19

Rockford, Illinois (WTVO) — Rockford’s mother has pleaed after her 3-year-old daughter was hospitalized for COVID-19 swelling of the brain.

According to the fundraiser posted in GoFundMe, Elysia Johnson says her daughter Evelyn was diagnosed with COVID-19 on Thursday, September 2nd. She was taken from Rochford Hospital to Madison’s UW Children’s Hospital, where doctors said she believed the disease caused encephalitis of the brain.

“My daughter stays almost unresponsive for more than 18-20 hours a day at the moment she only wakes up for 3-4 hours a day. When she is awake, when she tries to walk Her conversation was severely affected, with little control over her body movements, “Johnson wrote.

The family is asking for donations to make up for the post-insurance difference between testing and medical expenses.
