Springfield Shooting Suspect Arrested | Top Story

Springfield, Illinois (Wand)-A suspect associated with a shooting in Springfield on Wednesday night was arrested.

Police said they responded to E. Laurel Street’s 1100 block with a ShotSpotter alert at 11:56 pm on Wednesday. On the scene, he learned that a male victim had been taken to HSHS St. John’s Hospital after being shot in the upper body.

Victim status has been upgraded from life-threatening to stable. He is expected to survive.

The suspect was observed as a passenger in a vehicle around 12:32 pm on Thursday, and the Street Crime Unit at the Springfield Police Station and the Great Lakes Area Fugitive Task Force attempted to stop the vehicle. Police said the suspect’s car did not stop and a short chase was made near Taylor and Stanford Avenues.

Police said the chase ended at the Van Golf Course, at which point the suspect had escaped from the car. He was arrested with the help of a stun gun and was found to be in possession of a loaded firearm, police said.

Elmarquan Moore, 24, faces allegations related to shooting and vehicle hijacking. A formal complaint from Sangamon County lawyer Dan Wright is pending.

Moore is detained in Sangamon County Jail and has a deposit of $ 1 million.

Police also arrested a woman, Springfield’s 23-year-old Queen Chapman, who they said were driving a fleeing car. She has been charged with exacerbated escape and escape and has been detained in Sangamon County.
