A man charged with the disappearance of a 9-month-old child in 1982 | Illinois News

Detroit (AP) — A Chicago man was charged with murder in Michigan after the disappearance of a nine-month-old girl in 1982, officials said Thursday.

Isaia Williams has been accused of taking her child from her mother during a physical quarrel while living with her in Ohio. Orisa Williams has never been found and is estimated to have died.

“Mothers should never lose their children, especially in the hands of abusers,” said Attorney General Dana Nessel of Michigan.

Investigators believe Williams killed the girl as “an act of controlling her mother,” Nessel said.

Isaia Williams and Dennis Frazier Daniel were married, but he was not Orisa’s real father, Nessel said.

According to the Attorney General, 75-year-old Williams has a family relationship in Michigan, and investigators believe he took his child from Ohio to that state.

“Williams has told many different stories about Orisa’s whereabouts over the years and has been accused of contempt of court for failing to provide information,” Nessel said.

It wasn’t immediately clear if Williams had a lawyer who could comment on the allegations filed in Washtenaw County.

Williams resisted being handed over to Michigan while in prison in Chicago, the Attorney General’s office said.
