Civil Rights Advocates Die | Top Story

Springfield, Illinois (WAND) – Rev. Manker Harris, who fought for civil rights in the 1960s, has died. He was 88 years old.

During his life, Harris was drawn to the Ministry of Civil Rights Movement. In 1968 he received the Relationship Award from Decatur’s Relationship Committee.

Rev. Harris participated in the civil rights movement in Selma, Alabama, in March 1965. He visited Washington, DC, Boston, and Memphis for civil justice. In recent years he has been a volunteer at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library in Springfield.

He died on September 27, 2021.
