Champaign, Illinois (Wand)-Coroner, Champaign County, identified a man shot multiple times in the alleys of Champaign early Thursday morning.

The coroner identified the man as Charles Evans, 42, of Urbana.

According to the authorities, on October 7th At around 3:12 am, Champaign police responded to 500 blocks on West White Street for reports of firing.

Upon arrival, police officers placed Evans in the alley and inflicted multiple life-threatening gunshot wounds on his torso and arms.

Police provided medical assistance until Evans was taken to a local hospital, which was later injured.

Prior to the shooting, Evans was attending a rally in a nearby apartment when the quarrel was suspected, according to officials.

Residents or businesses in nearby areas using external surveillance camera systems are advised to notify the police. It is believed that video footage may aid in the investigation.

No arrests have been made at this time and an investigation is underway.

An autopsy of Evans’s body is scheduled for Friday, October 8.
