Following the return to the recent victorious live concert by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Maestro Riccardo Muti, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra features three very different and enthusiastically accepted programs for the rest of the 2021 season and 2022. The first half of the season.
In addition to Muti-led CSO concerts in five Residencies scheduled for January-June 2022, there are many programs featuring prominent guest conductors and soloists. The Symphony Center also hosts a variety of jazz, piano and chamber music concerts.
Some of the highlights already planned are:
— Missy Mazzoli and Jessie Montgomery premiere the work of CSO Mead Composer in Residence.
— The premiere of Philip Glass’s “Symphony No. 11” to commemorate the composer’s 85th birthday.
— The first performance by the CSO of the 1940 “Symphony No. 3” by African-American composer Florence Price. (Price spent much of her career in Chicago.)
— The conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen, who is currently the music director of the San Francisco Symphony, returns to Chicago.
— Jaap van Zweden, currently the music director of the New York Philharmonic and the Hong Kong Philharmonic, and conducting Mahler’s Symphony No. 6.
— Jane Grabber (leading a program of baroque and early classical music) and a highly acclaimed young American conductor (recently the principal guest conductor of the London Philharmonic Orchestra) leading a program featuring Strauss’s symphonic poems. The debut of both Carina Canelax (who was nominated). Einhelden Leben. “
— Collaboration with violinist Hilary Hahn, CSO’s first musician in residence, cellist Seth Parker Woods and pianist Andreas Haefliger.
— Igor Levit (famous for his 50 “house concerts” on Twitter during a pandemic), Alexander Gavruk, Denis Matsuev, Sir Andras Schiff, Yefim Bronfman, Richard Goode, Leif Ove Andsnes, Highly acclaimed pianists such as Inon will visit. Barnatan and Mitsuko Uchida.
— Maestro Muti will conduct the soloist in addition to the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Choir at the orchestra premiere of Verdi’s opera “Un Ballo in Masch”.
—CSO and Muti will lead the Symphony Ball fundraiser on April 2nd.
— There is a CSO for the Kids Program.
— The popular evening with John Williams turned on is set for June 9th.
— And last but not least, for the first time since 2018, Maestromuti will conclude the season on June 27th with a free Chicago concert program featuring works by Shostakovich and Tchaikovsky at Millennium Park.

Finally, as a result of the pandemic, the CSO’s regular January Asian tour was canceled, and the CSO and Muti will now reside in Chicago. The programming for the concert at that time will be announced later this fall.
