Ashburn, Virginia (AP) —The NFL Players Association said Wednesday that it had formally requested the league for information about a Washington practice facility that federal officials were searching for last week.

Head athletic trainer Ryan Burr Million has been on leave due to what a Washington spokesman called an ongoing criminal investigation independent of the team.

Two people familiar with the matter told The Associated Press that federal law enforcement officials, including an agent for the US Drug Enforcement Agency, provided a search warrant at the facility last week. According to one, another search warrant was issued at a local home.

NFLPA said the situation “has a direct impact on player health and safety.” NFLPA has asserted the wording of a collective bargaining agreement that requires clubs to comply with all state and federal laws and regulations. I look forward to learning more to protect the players. “

A league spokesman declined to comment.

Washington returned to practice on Wednesday without Vermilion. Vermilion didn’t play in Atlanta last week. Former trainer Baba Tire, who retired in 2009, was in the facility and field during practice.

Asked about Vermilion on Monday, coach Ron Rivera, who has worked with Carolina for over a decade, repeatedly referred to the team’s statement.

“I don’t comment on how I personally feel about what’s happening,” Rivera said. “That would go beyond what I need to say.”
