Athens, Georgia (AP) — Former NASCAR driver John Westownley was shot dead over the weekend during a conflict involving a hatchet after appearing in a house where his estranged wife and another man lived, police said. Said on Monday.
Athens Clarke County Police said in a statement that 31-year-old Townley, who had raced for eight seasons, had a weapon at some point before letting Zachary Anderson, 32, of Dunwoody, Georgia, be fatally injured. Said that. Thirty-year-old Laura Townley was shot dead and injured.

Townley has made 186 starts across the NASCAR RXfinity and Truck series, the bottom two domestic divisions of NASCAR. His victory in the track series in Las Vegas six years ago was the only national series victory in his career.
Townley drove a car owned by his father Tony Townley. He helped establish a restaurant chain for Zaxby’s, a major car sponsor.
