Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina (AP) —Thousands gathered in Bosnia on Saturday in opposition to the governments of Serbian-controlled Balkans.

Protesters have accused the ruling party of nationalist leader Milorad Dodik for crime and corruption, including the procurement of ventilators and other equipment during a coronavirus pandemic.

No incidents were reported at a rally in the central square of the northwestern town of Banja Luka.

“We are starting a fight against a private nation,” said opposition leader Drasco Stanibkovich, the mayor.

“This is not a protest, this is an uprising!” He said.

Serbian opposition in Bosnia has accused the government of curbing media freedom and democracy in organizations that make up almost half of the country. On suspicion of corruption, they demanded a change of health minister and hospital manager within the organization.

A Bosnian Serbian entity called Republika Srpska and a Bosniak-Croat entity were formed after the 1992-95 war, killing more than 100,000 people and evacuating millions.

Dodik insists on separating the Serbian-run part of Bosnia from other countries. Pro-Russian Serbian leaders are also members of the multi-ethnic President of Bosnia.
