Lexington, South Carolina (WGHP) —According to a local sheriff’s office, a South Carolina teacher was arrested after a student found and removed a pack of marijuana gummy from a classroom prize box.
Victoria Farish Weiss, 27, has been charged with possession of Schedule I drugs.
On September 23, the Lexington County Sheriff’s Office began an investigation following reports that students at Rocky Creek Elementary School had removed marijuana edible packs from a prize box in a teacher’s classroom. The prize box was used to reward students.
Gummies are a type of marijuana edible or cannabis-based food. Available in other states and online, it is illegal in South Carolina. Lexington County Sheriff Jay Kuhn..
“There are many different shapes, but the item in this case was a candy,” Kuhn said. “Often packaged in a wrapper or bag with a logo and color similar to traditional candy brands.”
When the student brought an edible pack, Weiss is said to have told the child to choose something else from the box. The student returned to the box and got another edible pack.
The next day, investigators searched Weiss’s house and found an edible pack similar to the one found in the classroom.
Weiss crouched on Friday morning.
No student ate a product containing THC.
