Talladega, Alabama (AP) — NASCAR’s postponed playoff race at the Talladega Superspeedway was canceled on Monday by a second rain, led by Baba Wallace.

The race had already passed the midpoint by the second stop. That is, if NASCAR cannot resume the event, the results can be official.

The first red flag stop lasted a little over 18 minutes early in the second phase. The second stop was three laps remaining on stage, and Wallace was a 23XI racing Toyota, leading the field to the pit road for a parked car.

Wallace climbed out of his car and moved into the sky to rain. If the 2.66 mile Superspeedway is submerged, it can take at least two hours to dry the truck and push NASCAR up towards sunset. The truck has no lights.

Wallace said he didn’t want to discuss what would happen if the race was called.

“I believe a lot, like when a tire vibrates or something goes wrong. I believe a lot. Don’t talk about it. It doesn’t happen,” he said. Said during the delay. “I want it to rain. I want to make it happen. As long as it’s official, I don’t want to talk about it. I have a lot of laps left.”

The race was originally scheduled for Sunday, but was postponed for a day due to rain.

NASCAR confronted both rain and sunlight at Talladega. NASCAR on Saturday called the Xfinity series race six laps from completion due to the darkness and does not want the same result in the Premier Cup series. Taradiga marked the middle race of the second round of the playoffs and only pole sitter Denny Hamlin will be locked in the next round.

The Cup Series will race this Sunday at Charlotte Motor Speedway’s hybrid road course / oval, Roval. The playoff field will be trimmed from 12 drivers to 8 after the exclusion event. Even if it is predicted that it will rain intermittently in Alabama over the next few days, NASCAR will not make every attempt to complete the cup race in Talladega before moving to North Carolina.
