Tennessee does Missouri’s fast job with a 62-24 rout | WGN Radio 720

Columbia, Missouri (AP) Tennessee routed Missouri 62-24 and recorded touchdowns in the first six touchdowns on Saturday, Hendon Hooker threw three touchdowns and another touch I ran down.

Hooker completed 15 out of 19 passes at 225 yards and rushed 14 times at 74 yards. He wasn’t the only one to fill his statistics against embarrassed defenses. Tiyon Evans was in a hurry 15 times with 156 yards and 3 touchdowns. Tennessee (3-2, 1-1 Southeastern Conference) piled up a total of 677 yards and did not punt.

Volunteers built a lead in the first quarter of 28-3 without having to perform third-down play. Among the many highlights was Evans’ 92-yard touchdown run. He passed through a large hole on the right and was not touched by Missouri’s defenders.

The 92-yard TD run was the third longest in program history.

The Tigers (2-3, 0-2 SEC) participated in a game ranked 129th out of 130 FBS teams in Rush Defense, enabling an average of 269 rush yards per game. Tennessee had a 275-yard rushyard in the first half alone, built a 45-10 lead and finished 452 yards above the ground.

Tennessee’s defense included Missouri’s big-name threat, Tyler Buddy, who held a running back to 41 yards with a 21-carry and intercepted quarterback Connor Bazelak twice. The best moment for Missouri was a special team when Chris Abrams-Drain returned a 100-yard kick-off for a touchdown in the third quarter.

Take away

Tennessee: Virginia Tech graduate Hooker, who lost to Joe Milton in a pre-season quarterback battle, emerged as a solid player after taking over as a Game 3 starter. Hooker led the volunteers to score on the first nine drives. He delivered a 35-yard touchdown pass to JaVonta Payton, 35 yards to Velus Jones Jr., and 24 yards to Cedric Tillman.

Missouri: The term of Steve Wilks, a former NFL head coach and first-year defensive coordinator, was a disastrous start. After using the 4-2-5 formation in the first four games, Wilkes started the game 3-3-5 against the volunteers, but Tennessee was at least not bothered by the new look. Missouri’s defensive lines and linebackers couldn’t get off the block, so Tennessee’s running back could easily get into the secondary.

Missouri: The Tigers will meet North Texas at home on October 9th.
