Des Plaines, Illinois — Police are investigating an armed robbery just outside the Rivers Casino in Des Plaines.

The robbery took place on Tuesday at about 2:30 am in the casino parking lot.

According to police, two men with bandanas covering their faces were in a dark car. The vehicle was pulled up by a 34-year-old man, who pointed his gun at him. They told the man to give him his prize, which was about $ 40,000 in cash.

The robbed man admitted to WGN News that he should have the casino write a check, but he received the prize in cash and went out the door.

He also didn’t seek guard escort, but said he wanted because he noticed he was being tracked in the middle of the night and now believes he was targeted.

The casino said it had handed over all video surveillance to police for investigation and said it had increased outside guards over the past year.

They issued the following statement to WGN:

On the morning of November 9, Casino Security, the Des Plaines Police Station, and the Illinois Gaming Commission responded to an incident involving patrons. We thanked the first responders for their prompt response and immediately provided robust surveillance footage of the property to assist law enforcement agencies in the investigation.

The safety and security of guests and team members is Rivers’ top priority. With the environment in mind, Rivers is increasing its external security patrols indefinitely 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, as part of its overall enhancement of additional security and monitoring instrument properties.
