Dallas (AP) — American Airlines has canceled approximately 1,600 flights in the last three days due to the fierce situation in Texas and the shortage of flight attendants.
The turmoil was similar in origin and magnitude to the problem Southwest Airlines suffered in early October, asking an ominous question as to whether major airlines are preparing for their busy next vacation trip.
According to tracking service FlightAware, American Airlines canceled nearly 900 flights on Friday and Saturday, and then canceled more than 700 flights (almost 30% of the day’s schedule) by noon on Sunday.
American trouble began at the end of the week, with strong winds sometimes shutting down flights and making all runways at Dallas / Fort Worth International Airport, the busiest hub of airlines, unavailable.
