An Ingleside woman charged with stealing a check from the mail and monetizing it

Lake County, Illinois — On Tuesday, an Ingleside woman was accused of stealing mail in northern Lake County and subsequently cashed a chemically modified check.

On Saturday, Anitok police implemented a traffic suspension for vehicles suspected of being involved in the theft of mail. Ingleside’s Christine Siminack, 34, was arrested after authorities believed she had participated.

According to police, Siminac and colleagues will steal checks from mail, chemically modify them, and monetize them for their own benefit.

On Tuesday, Siminac was charged with three counts: postal fraud and counterfeiting. Her next court day is scheduled for November 23.

Sheriff detectives continue to investigate these thefts and may incur additional charges in the future for additional individuals.
