Jack Conklin, who started his right tackle with Cleveland (AP) Browns, misses “a few weeks” after removing his left elbow after losing to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.
Kevin Stefanski said Monday that he wasn’t entirely sure if Conklin would need surgery or be on the disabled list.
Stefanski expects Conklin to return at some point this season.
Conklin returned to the lineup after missing two games due to a knee injury on Sunday, but quarterback Baker Mayfield, who was described as “troublesome,” was injured and collapsed early. Medical staff immediately requested a cart to get Conklin, but the 2020 All-Pro was able to hug his left arm and leave the field.
Conklin, who is entering his second season in Cleveland, is undergoing further testing on Monday.
Stefanski said Blake Hans would move to the starting point for Conklin. Hans has been vigilant for the last two seasons due to injury. He filled his hands against Steelers’ starlinebacker TJ Watt, who finished in a 11/2 sack with a 15-10 victory in Pittsburgh.
Browns may try to trade before Tuesday’s deadline to add depth in advance.
Prior to Conklin’s appearance, Cleveland’s attack line, perhaps the team’s strength, was full power for the first time since the first week. Conklin and left tackle Jedrick Wills Jr., Center JC Tretter and Guard Joel Bitonio and Wyatt Teller played all the snaps.
Stefanski also said that John Johnson III’s safety is “every day” and Neckstinger is suffering on Sunday.
Browns (4-4) will visit Cincinnati Bengals (5-3) on Sunday.
