Chicago — The Chicago Blackhawks announced on Saturday that head coach Jeremy Colliton was fired after the start of 1-9-2.
Formerly the head coach of Rockford Icehogs, Derek King was appointed as interim head coach and came into effect soon.
The organization also announced that Thomas Mitel and Sheldon Brookbank have been relieved of their coaching obligations. The team will leave Marc Crawford, Jimmy Waite, Matt Meecham, Dylan Crawford and Chris Kunitz as coach staff.
Danny Wirtz, CEO of the Blackhawks, said:
“It was a very difficult week for our organization and we had to accept many of the changes we needed. We recognize that we must regain the trust of our fans to move forward, and that’s why. Thanks to the support of the entire community. On the ice, interim general manager Kyle Davidson has full confidence and autonomy to make hockey decisions, and we are about this coaching change. We thank Jeremy for everything he has brought to Blackhawks and look forward to working with Derek as Interim Head Coach while working to rebuild his permanent hockey management leadership. “
Derek King was appointed as interim head coach, saying:
“There are many talents in this team. I am familiar with my experience in the organization. I look forward to working with them behind the bench. Through this process, with Kyle Davidson. Thanks for the support from Danny Wurts. I understand my role and position and am ready to do the work necessary to support the success of my organization. “
